NEPA/CEQA Planner

Job Responsibilities

The primary role of the NEPA/CEQA Planner is to coordinate the preparation of required environmental compliance documents and permit applications. Typical responsibilities include: Preparing internal and external reports addressing issues and actions associated with projects, and communicating with internal team members and agency personnel. Working extensively with internal clients, including multi disciplinary teams, field personnel and management on project licensing and environmental documentation. Management of the preparation of all required application and environmental assessment documents by the internal project team as well as external consultants. Managing project schedules and budgets to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.




Required Skills, Knowledge and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, environmental science, geography or natural resources management
  • Thorough understanding of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), including procedural requirements
  • Working knowledge of major federal and state environmental laws, including, but not limited to, environmental permitting and procedures
Preference will be given to those applicants with demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in writing NEPA/CEQA compliance documents, including environmental assessments.

 


Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist

Job Responsibilities

  • Create maps and graphs, using GIS software and related equipmen
  • Meet with users to define data needs, project requirements and required outputs, or to develop applications
  • Conduct research to locate and obtain existing databases
  • Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS
  • Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps
  • Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports
  • Design and update database, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations
  • Enter new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography, including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Education

  • Geography-Knowledge of various methods for describing the location and distribution of land, sea, and air masses including their physical locations, relationships, and characteristics
  • Communication, Written, Oral, and Cartographic-The ability to convey GIS/spatial information to non-GIS/technical people
  • Analytical Skills-The ability to solve problems using the GIS suite of tools
  • Information Gathering-Understanding how to find information, identify what's essential and validate i
  • Information Ordering-The ability to correctly follow a given rule or set of rules to arrange things or actions in a certain order
